10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium
Overview
Bragança Polytechnic University | 23-25 January 2025
The 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium is scheduled for 23-25 January, 2025 and will be held at School of Public Management, Communication and Tourism of Bragança Polytechnic University (EsACT-IPB), Mirandela. The charming city of Mirandela, located in the picturesque northeastern Portugal, a short distance from places of environmental and cultural interest (e.g. the historic city of Bragança and Alto Douro UNESCO World Heritage region) looks forward to warmly welcoming you.
The first of its kind, the joint Conference is the product of a partnership between Grudis Accounting Research Network and the Centre of Applied Research in Management and Economics (CARME) of the Polytechnic of Leiria, the team behind GECAMB/Portuguese CSEAR (Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research, UK). It brings together the annual Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium with the biennial Portuguese CSEAR Conference (aka GECAMB), two communities of scholars with a shared passion and interest in accounting research.
The event will feature the presentation of conference papers and PhD research projects at the Doctoral Colloquium. It offers a unique opportunity to present your research in all areas of accounting, including social, and environmental accounting, to receive discussant and participant feedback, to participate in insightful plenary addresses and engage with speakers, and to develop professional networks and explore collaboration opportunities. Ultimately, the conference seeks to support scholars with the production and dissemination of high-quality Accounting Research, including Social and Environmental Accounting Research.
We invite Accounting scholars and researchers, graduate students, and practitioners to take part in this event. We welcome submissions of papers from all researchers, and in particular from members of the CSEAR community and the Grudis Accounting Research Network.
The XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium is supported by the European Accounting Association (EAA) under its National Associations Initiative.
We look forward to seeing you at the 10th P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium in January 2025.

The School of Public Management, Communication, and Tourism of Mirandela was established in 1995 as part of the School of Technology and Management of Bragança. In 2008, it gained autonomy and adopted its current name, reflecting its distinct identity and focus areas. The School’s strategic emphasis lays on Communication and Tourism, key areas for both the institution and the region’s development. By leveraging technological resources and the cultural heritage of the region, EsACT-IPB offers a diverse range of programs (masters, bachelors, and technical professional courses) in Communication, Administration, and Tourism. The School’s efforts to internationalize have earned it a respected position in the European academic community and among Portuguese-speaking countries.
EsACT-IPB has hosted various international scientific meetings, demonstrating its strong academic community and dynamic environment. As experienced scholars, we are dedicated to making the Grudis Conference a success by providing a platform for high-quality scientific discussions and ample opportunities for socializing and networking. The event also comprises the Doctoral Colloquium and has the support of the European Accounting Association (EAA) and of the Portuguese Institute of Certified Accountants (Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados – OCC). Both Conference and Doctoral Colloquium are aimed at accounting researchers, graduate students (masters and doctoral students) and others interested in accounting research.
We are confident that the 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium will be a remarkable event, contributing valuable insights to the field of accounting and fostering meaningful connections among participants.

Eligible PhD students have access to the Doctoral Colloquium Award (details below).
Submissions to the 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR section are eligible for the Outstanding Paper Award.
Outstanding Reviewer Award, Professor Ana Maria Rodrigues
The Outstanding Reviewer Award recognises service excellence among peers. This award bears the name of Professor Ana Maria Rodrigues, the late Grudis member who distinguished herself for her selfless sense of service to the Grudis and wider accounting community. Winners receive a certificate in acknowledgement of their exceptional service to the review process.
The award is decided by the Standing Scientific Committee (whose members are ineligible).
Outstanding Paper Award, Professor Lúcia Lima Rodrigues
The Outstanding Paper Award recognises conference papers that stand out for their excellence among peers. This award bears the name of Professor Lúcia Lima Rodrigues, the late Grudis member who distinguished herself for the outstanding contribution to accounting research through numerous and well-cited publications in leading journals. Winners receive a certificate in acknowledgement of the quality of their research.
The award is decided in a two-stage process that entails reviewers’ recommendations and a nomination by an independent panel. All conference papers are eligible.
Accounting and Management Review Award
The Accounting and Management Review (AMR) Award recognizes the best papers that stand out for their excellence among peers and whose authors apply to the Award. During the submission process (EasyChair), authors will be prompted to indicate if they wish to be considered for the AMR Award, signalling their willingness to publish their work in the Accounting and Management Review.

Doctoral Colloquium Award
Research projects submitted to the Grudis Doctoral Colloquium may participate, upon indication of authors and eligibility, in a selection process under the Grudis-EAA partnership agreement, which offers the following exclusive benefits for selected doctoral students:

The Scientific Committee selects (up to) three awardees for the Doctoral Colloquium Award.
Submission
Manuscripts in English and Portuguese are accepted, with presentations and discussions in the language the paper is written.
When submitting a paper, the author will need to indicate whether the paper is being submitted to either the 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR section or the XXIV Grudis Conference section. Submission to the 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR section requires registration for the full conference (3-Day event - – Thursday, Friday, and Saturday), while submission to the XXIV Grudis Conference section only requires registration to the Grudis part of the conference (1.5 days - Friday afternoon and Saturday). Different registration fees apply to the two options (see Registration fees below).
Authors are allowed to submit and present two different papers, one to each section (i.e. the 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR section and the XXIV Grudis Conference section). However, they are not allowed to submit or present multiple papers to the same section. Authors who are submitting and presenting papers can still be co-authors on other papers within the same section. Only current PhD students may submit manuscripts to the Doctoral Colloquium.
The submission of the manuscripts is via Easychair. Please register on Easychair platform, if you have not done so yet. The submission process will require you to identify the authors of the manuscript and to submit a PDF or Word document. This document needs to meet the following criteria:
- Be a complete version of the manuscript - i.e. only full papers may be submitted.
- Be de-identified - author(s) identification needs to be removed to ensure the anonymity of the review process; Author information is entered directly on the Easychair submission page.
- To not exceed 15 000 words.
In parallel, a copy of the full paper, with identification of the authors, should be sent to the conference email conference@grudis.pt to be made available to registered participants ahead of the conference.
The submission deadline is 22 October 2024 via Easychair - 10P-CSEAR_XXIVGCDC_2025.
A blind refereeing process will be followed.
Papers from all areas of accounting and drawing in all research methods are welcomed. In particular, we welcome papers focusing on issues in Auditing, Accounting Education, Financial Analysis, Financial Reporting, Accounting and Governance, History, Interdisciplinary/Critical, Accounting and Information Systems, Management Accounting, Public Sector Accounting & Not-For-Profit Accounting, Social and Environmental Accounting & Ethical Issues in Accounting, and Taxation. We also welcome all research method approaches, including Analytical/Modelling, Conceptual Development/Interpretative/Historical, Case/Field Study, Empirical Archival, Experimental, and Survey. The 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR section welcomes submissions from a broader set of areas of research, including Social and Environmental Accounting, Sustainable Development, Environmental Economics, Environmental Management and Eco-efficiency, Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility.
Authors should not submit papers presented at a previous Grudis Conference. Only in exceptional circumstances a second presentation will be permitted and subject fundamental changes having been made to the paper.
Authors should also indicate through Easychair if they wish to be considered for the Accounting and Management Review Award, which results from partnership between Grudis and the Portuguese Institute of Certified Accountants (OCC). For more details, see Conference Awards under the Program above.
The acceptance of papers becomes final only after completing the registration of the presenting author, up to two weeks after notification of acceptance (see also Key Dates, under Registration).
